Psychological Abuse – How to Recognize It?

Domestic violence is a common phenomenon worldwide. This is a shocking pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain power and constant control over a partner. t is possible that this abuse could be on a child or adult family members. Such incidents are called domestic violence.

There should be no justification for such actions. However, for Gen Z to understand this phenomenon, it is important to note that most abusers act to gain control over their victims.

This desire for control can stem from anger management problems, low self-esteem, jealousy, inferiority complex, personality disorders, as well as alcohol or drug abuse. The National Intimate Partner Sexual Violence Survey in 2022 found that women experienced more sexual violence than men. The most shocking thing about this case is that among the younger population, approximately 10% of children are exposed to bullying. Domestic violence, which is unfortunately quite common, has many faces, some of which are clearly visible.

Psychological Abuse – How to Recognize It?

Here are some of the signs:

- Open or hidden wounds or bruises

- The victim behaves anxiously in the presence of a partner

- Limited or no meetings with family members and friends

- Constant fear of saying something wrong, contradicting a partner or refusing sex.

Trying to break free from the shackles is a difficult feat, but not entirely impossible. Remember, you do not have to face this battle alone. You can seek and receive help. There are a few important steps you need to take to make this happen.

Identify the safe places you can run to and the people who can provide you with help and protection. Make sure you have evidence against the abuser.

Take pictures of wounds, bruises or cuts, threatening messages and emails that indicate partner abuse and keep them in a safe place so the abuser cannot find them. Whenever possible, discreetly approach local centers that support victims of domestic violence for assistance with your plan to leave. They can also offer guidance on life after the escape. Call a helpline - domestic violence hotlines can provide anonymous help to victims of domestic violence.
