Paranoid personality disorder (PPD) is part of a group of conditions belonging to cluster A or "eccentric personality disorders". It is characterized by mistrust to others, including friends, family and intimate partners.

A person with such a personality disorder is cautious, always suspicious and always at their alert. People in this state are overly sensitive to rejection and failure, they easily feel shame and humiliation and harbor anger.

This disorder usually begins in childhood or early adolescence and is more common in males than females. Studies estimate that PPD affects form 2.3% to 4.4% of the total world population.

As it has already been clear, paranoid personality disorder can develop with everyone; famous personalities have also suffered from it. Among them are political leaders such as Saddam Hussein, Joseph Stalin and Richard Nixon. It is the 37th president of the USA who has been the subject of many studies and was known for his paranoia. While president, he was hypervigilant, careful, he recorded every meeting he held and rarely trusted people. Throughout his life, Richard Nixon lived in fear that he would lose his power as a president. It was that fear and paranoia that drove him to do things that ultimately ended his presidency.

Other examples are Edward Einstein, Albert Einstein’s son, who spent much of his life in mental institutions, as well as Roger Keith Barrett, better known as Syd Barrett - founder and guitarist of Pink Floyd.
