n the late eighties, the term "queer" was used as an offensive word for an effeminate man or a gay man. In the English language, the term was used as an insulting definition of a weird and eccentric person. It can be said that "queer" is a collective term for all identities that are not heterosexual.

In the early 1990s, the LGBTQ community embraced what had until recently been considered an offensive term as a positive term. The reason for this is the fact that those who define themselves as "queer" do not mind being perceived as interesting and different by the society.

What Does QUEER Exactly Mean?

Nowadays, the term "queer" is widely used to refer to members of the LGBTQ community, although, of course, there are still people who are not comfortable with the term.

However, it is important to clarify that defining someone as "queer" is a matter of self-identification. Many people are embarrassed to identify themselves as "trans", "gay" or "lesbian", but identifying themselves as "queer" is considered far more acceptable.
