Neuroticism is one of the most scrutinized personality traits today and often it has a connotation in our culture. Neuroticism is the tendency of an individual to anxiety, negativity towards the surrounding world, and quite often doubt in his/her abilities and capacities. A neurotic person often imagines the worst possible scenarios, which can be associated with some guilt, fear or depression. However, it is important to say that everyone is neurotic to a certain degree.

Psychologists claim that people who have an increased level of neuroticism are often highly emotional or, in most cases, very nervous. They tend to easily develop various phobias, obsessive thoughts and even depression. They are more often dissatisfied with their lives. Individuals who have low neuroticism are considered to be more emotionally stable.

Neuroticism may occur differently in different people, but there are still basic characteristics that we should mention. Neurotic individuals are prone to mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. They always emphasize their own mistakes and imperfections, no matter how minor they are. They always put lots of importance to negative feelings and emotions and expect the worst outcome in any situation. They often tend to change their mood and are emotionally unstable. They have a tendency to hypochondria and develop panic disorder.

However, it is important to say that being neurotic is not a medical condition. It is a personality trait. With some individuals it is more serious than with others. If, however, your neuroticism causes you stress and pushes you towards anxiety, addictions and depression, it would be good to see a specialist and start a therapy to regain your emotional stability.
