A store owner put a sign over their door that said, "Puppies for sale." Signs like this always have a way of attracting young children, and unsurprisingly, a boy saw the sign and asked the owner:

"How much will you sell the puppies for?" and the man replied, "$30 to $50."

The little boy took some change out of his pocket. "I have $2.37."

The shop owner smiled and whistled. Lady jumped out from inside, followed by five little puppies. However, one of them was limping and the little boy immediately noticed it and asked the owner what was wrong with it. The man replied that the vet had examined the puppy and found that it had no hip socket. It would always limp.

This stirred exceitement in the little boy, who said, "This is the puppy I want to buy."But the shop owner replied: "No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If you really want it, I'll just give it to you."

The little boy was very upset. It looked straight into the shop owner's eyes, pointed a finger and said: "I don't want you to give it to me. This little dog is worth as much as everyone else and I will pay the full price. In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now and 50 cents per month until I pay it off.''

The store owner objected: "You really don't want to buy that little dog. He will never be able to run, jump and play with you like other puppies."

To his surprise, the little boy rolled up his trousers to reveal a badly twisted, mutilated left leg supported by a large metal brace. He looked at the shop owner and quietly replied: "Well, I don't run that well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands it!"

This story reveals several important themes and lessons:

Empathy and understanding: The main theme is empathy. The little boy intuitively understands and relates to the problems of the puppy that, like him, suffers because of a physical disability. This creates a deep emotional bond between the child and the puppy.

The value of an Individual: The story accentuates that every person, regardless of their constraints or differences, has value. The boy insists on paying for the puppy, despite its disability, showing that it deserves the same value and respect as any other puppy.

Strength of personality: The determination of the boy to pay the full price for the puppy shows his strength of character and his honesty. He does not ask for compassion or special treatment, but rather for equality and justice.

Overcoming prejudices: The store owner initially offered the puppy for free, possibly assuming that because of its disability, it would not be wanted. This shows how often people can underestimate the value of those who look or act differently.

The story is a powerful allegory for human empathy, equality and mutual understanding, emphasizing that every being, regardless of their limitations, deserves love, respect and dignity.
