Young drivers will no longer be able to drive powerful cars. The limit will be 100 HP. The law was adopted by the Romanian Senate
The Senate tacitly adopted on March 4 a legislative proposal according to which the placement of speed measurement radars for traffic participants must be announced in advance to drivers either through signs or through mass media.
The unspoken acceptance of the legislative proposal, for which the deadline for debate and vote expired on March 1, was acknowledged by Sorin Cîmpeanu, the Vice President of the Senate, who presided over the plenary session on March 4.

"Police vehicles, parked or in motion, with which traffic police are on surveillance and control missions, use light and/or sound warning signals. The speed measurement devices are only used by traffic police officers from marked police vehicles or from outside them, in a visible location for traffic participants. (...) Traffic police warn vehicle drivers about the presence of speed measurement devices in traffic through mass media or warning signs. Vehicle drivers may use their own means to detect speed measurement devices", according to the legislative proposal initiated by a group of UDMR parliamentarians, according to Agerpres.
The legislative proposal also provides for the mandatory installation of traffic lights on roads/streets with a minimum of two lanes per direction.
"In the vicinity of educational institutions, health or social-medical assistance units, markets, fairs, as well as in areas with a high risk of accidents, through the care of local authorities or the road administrator, where applicable, guardrails will be installed for protection and road arrangements will be made to reduce vehicle speed", the UDMR project stipulates.
The draft normative act proposes increasing the number of hours of practical training from a minimum of 30 to at least 45 hours, and the examination for obtaining the license can be conducted "by examiners who are natural persons accredited by the competent authority".
"Drivers up to 21 years of age, as well as those with less than one year of driving experience for category B vehicles, are prohibited from driving vehicles exceeding 100 HP, or 75 kW in the case of road vehicles", the UDMR project adopted tacitly by the Senate further states.
The legislative proposal will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making body in this case.
