David-Andrei Anghel, the best math student in the world, who last year won the gold medal with a perfect score at the International Olympiad in Japan, ranked first at the National Olympiad held in Târgu Mureş.

"I don't want to sound arrogant, but the scientific part was downright trivial, and the Olympiad and selection round imposed very easy topics, I didn't really like it (...). Last year I got the maximum score at the International Olympiad, something a Romanian hasn't done in over 25 years. It was probably the best moment of my life to achieve such a performance. I feel very appreciated, right here, at the Olympiad, everyone loves me, I've given autographs, pictures, I feel very good. I hope to inspire others to excel and pursue their dreams", said David-Andrei Anghel to the press.

The student said that behind this achievement there is a lot of work, perseverance and passion. He sometimes works four to five hours a day with the teachers who prepared him, Victor Vacariu and Dan Dumitrescu.

David-Andrei Anghel added that he will continue his studies in the United States at MIT, but he doesn't know exactly what he will study.

Alongside him, on the top step of the National Mathematics Olympiad podium, in the 12th grade, were Andrei Giovani Chiriţă from the "Tudor Vianu" National College of Informatics in Bucharest, Robert Gîdea from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest, Petre Luca Mirea-Bulubaşa from the "Mircea cel Bătrân" National College in Râmnicu Vâlcea, Vlad Titus Spătaru from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest, and Mara Ioana Zaharia from the "Vasile Alecsandri" National College in Galaţi.

The second place went to Dacian Robu from the "Vasile Lucaciu" National College in Baia Mare, and the third place was obtained by Edward Torac from the International Theoretical Informatics High School, with 13 honorable mentions also awarded.

Eight gold medals, 13 silver medals and 21 bronze medals were awarded by the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society.

In the 11th grade, the first place was awarded to Andrei Vila, from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest, the second place to Ovidiu Marian Lazăr from the "Iancu de Hunedoara" National College in Hunedoara, and the third place to Pavel Ciurea, from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest.

45 medals were awarded - seven gold, 14 silver and 24 bronze by the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society.

In the 10th grade, Victor-Vasile Dragoş from the "Vasile Lucaciu" National College in Baia Mare claimed the first place, followed by Andrei Călin Vasile from the "Mihai Viteazul" National College in Ploieşti in second place, while Chenglin Shang from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest secured third place, with an additional 14 honorable mentions being awarded.

Additionally, the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society awarded eight gold medals, 16 silver medals and 23 bronze medals.

In the 9th grade, the first place was occupied by Iancu-Ioan Sandea, the second place by Matei Neacşu, and the third place by Andrei Șună, all three from the International Theoretical Informatics High School in Bucharest, with 13 honorable mentions also awarded.

10 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 22 bronze medals were awarded by the Romanian Mathematical Sciences Society.

The dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Professor Cătălin Gherghe, president of the Central Commission of the National Mathematics Olympiad, stated that the participating students were very well prepared.

"I am also the coordinator of Romania's Olympic mathematics team, and in recent years, the performances have been, I can say without false modesty, almost historic. To elaborate, just last year, we secured the top spot in Europe, and globally, we were only outperformed by major powers like America, China and Korea. Some of these very students were here as well. We had David-Andrei Anghel here, who will finish this year, it was his last Olympiad as a student, he's the one who scored, for the first time in the world, the maximum of 42 points at the International Olympiad, but there are also other exceptional children (...). Here also begins a new cycle of selection for the next International Olympiad which will be in July, and today was already the first selection round", stated Professor Cătălin Gherghe.
