Romania ranked first in the world at the International Geography Olympiad. Gold and silver medals for Romanian students

Once more, students from Romania have achieved remarkable success on the international stage, this time at the 2023 International Geography Olympiad (IGEO), where they claimed the top position and earned four medals.

At the International Geography Olympiad held in the Indonesian city of Bandung, the Romanian students participating secured three gold medals and one silver medal. At the end of the competition, they stood atop the world podium, as announced by the Ministry of Education.

The competition took place from August 8th to August 14th, with the three rounds of testing occurring on August 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, along with excursions and traditional games, according to the official schedule, as reported by Edupedu.ro.

Nearly 180 students from 46 countries competed in the International Geography Olympiad, as mentioned by the source.

According to the Ministry of Education, Romania's team consisted of:

  • Brădățeanu Radu Andrei from the "Sf. Sava" National College in Bucharest – gold medal;

  • Hanganu Daniel Nicolae from the National College in Iași – gold medal;

  • Preda David Ștefan from the "Unirea" National College in Focșani – gold medal;

  • Olariu Tudor Sebastian from the "Costache Negruzzi" National College in Iași – silver medal.

The team was coordinated by the professors, husband and wife, Fiscutean Mihaela Cornelia and Fiscutean Dorin, from the National College in Iași.
