Mayor at 19 years old. He is the youngest mayor in Norwegian history
The youngest mayor in the history of Norway, 19-year-old Havard Handeland, was received on March 11th by the head of the Romanian Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat.
While in Romania as part of a delegation, Havard Handeland engaged in discussions with the head of DSU regarding the strong bilateral ties between Romania and Norway, focusing on emergency management and prospective joint efforts in civil protection and societal resilience, as indicated on the DSU's Facebook page.

"The relations between Romania and Norway in terms of life-saving date back to the early 1990s, with the Red Cross in Sauda, where Havard Handeland serves as mayor, making an immense contribution to supporting the development of the first SMURD crew in Mureș County", the source said.
In September of last year, the Norwegian citizens of the Sauda municipality were to elect their mayor, the person tasked with the role of local executive authority. The unique aspect of these elections was the triumph of the youngest politician in the history of the Kingdom of Norway, who succeeded his predecessor, victorious at the age of 21, as noted by the DSU.
