Nevertheless, the Minister clarified that the potential establishment of a voluntary military service is being contemplated, with the purpose of addressing the Army's reserve requirements.
The Minister outlined that there is a proposal for a military service lasting several months for individuals aged 18-35.
"We don't know how it will unfold; we are in the phase of discussing this", the Minister stated.
According to Tîlvăr, the Romanian Army has decreased from over 320,000 people to having approximately 80,000.
"In terms of numbers, the Army has seen a reduction, and the operational requirements remain as they are, which has been the case in Europe for an extended period", the Defense Minister appended.
However, he strongly asserts that there is no danger of war.
"Romania is not in danger of war, not in danger of being attacked. It doesn't mean that it shouldn't be in line with what is happening in other armies in this regard. The level of military technology has increased, the effectiveness of military technology has increased. But there is always the need to refresh and have people available in a situation", Tîlvăr further stated.
The Head of the Defense Staff, General Gheorghiţă Vlad, expressed the intention to implement a voluntary military service for individuals aged 18 to 35 interested in donning military uniforms. He emphasized the need to identify the necessary resources to ensure a ready and trained population.
"It's a T0 moment when all European nations need to consider preparing their populations, and I don't intend to convey an alarmist message, but it is the reality we are facing", he argued.
