From the memories of an extraordinary child
Shaun Ross says that as a child, he always felt that his look was treated differently. The model says that he remembers how at school a child walked past him and said to his mother:
"Mom, why is he so white?"
In my defense, my mom just looked at me, angry at what the boy said. Ross says they heard the boy's mother reply:
"He's not white. Think of him as the boy in the movie Powder".
At that point Shaun felt good.
It turns out that after the incident, his mother soothed him and told him that he should know that he is handsome.
"Because of her I never forget that I am handsome and I can change the world," says Ross.
"You are ugly!"
"You're a disaster!"
"You're the new test tube baby!"
Yes, these are some of the harsh words he was crushed with.
"This is the stuff I have been listening to for years. "I never thought I could be a model before," says Shaun.
After becoming a model it took a certain amount of time to be accepted.
"I saw a change which, in its turn, inspired me," he says and he is certain of one thing:
"I don't want people to feel sorry for me because I don't feel sorry for myself. I am extremely proud of myself and I want everyone to be proud of themselves."
