Stefan Komandarev is one of our most prominent directors, author of documentaries and feature films. He is also a producer, screenwriter and member of the European Film Academy. Among his award-winning films are: "In a Circle" (2019), "Directions" (2017), "The Court"(2014), "The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Everywhere" (2008).

The film features the story of the retired and recently widowed teacher Blaga who becomes a victim of a telephone scam. She loses all her savings and cannot pay for her husband's tombstone. She tries to get her money back, but realizes that this is not going to happen. Desperate beyond measure with the situation she found herself in, Blaga receives a suspicious job offer that will make her go beyond all the principles she has otherwise strictly followed throughout her life.

It is a movie that probably will not be one of the most watched by the Gen Z, yet, this plot has become an integral part of the reality we live in. Although it is painfully familiar, there is always someone who, upon accepting a call, falls into a dimension of stress, panic and fear, so consuming to the mind that it leaves a person seemingly deranged, ready to do anything just to get rid of it. At some point, however, it becomes clear that such a dimension never existed outside the delusional imagination and suggestion of the person on the other side of the line.

Blaga’s Lessons won the grand prize at the international film festival in Karlovy Vary for the best film, as well as the award for the best female role for the actress in the leading role - Elli Skorcheva.

The National Film Center reported that the decision was made unanimously, after a meeting of the panel on the selection of a Bulgarian nomination to participate in the competition for international feature films at the 96th awards of the American Film Academy.

The panel consisted of Lyudmila Dyakova, Zornitsa Sofia, Prof. Emiliya Stoeva, Dr. Deyan Statulov and Hristo Hristozov.

The decision of the panel was announced on 7 September.
