The New Trend among Children, What Is the Response of the Institutions in Bulgaria
114 vials were found - each with a capacity of 640 ml containing laughing gas and 360 cartridges for the distribution of such gas. One vial fills up 80 balloons with laughing gas, which are sold at retail.
For the official institutions, the sale of the confiscated bottles of laughing gas and the cartridges was not carried out and documented under the Accounting Law, but all that was performed by individuals. A bottle of laughing gas of capacity 640 ml is available on the Internet and social networks at a price of 28 to 32 BGN. A balloon is sold from 6 to 7 BGN. However, this data is not sufficient within the scope of the Criminal Proceedings Act and does not initiate an investigation on the committed tax crimes. Yet, the District Prosecutor's Office finds the information sufficient for the revenue authorities to initiate and carry out the relevant inspections they are competent in.
Laughing gas balloons are more and more popular with the younger Z generation. Two 13-year-old girls say that laughing gas is a hit with younger students. They claim that they have not used it, but many of their peers do. According to them, it is easy to get it from a distributor. "In the discos, they give it to everyone, there are no age restrictions," explained one of the girls. The Regional Health Office is assisting the police in the investigation of the case. A provision in the Health Act prohibits the sale of laughing gas, including online, to persons under the age of 18. However, dinitrogen oxide is easily accessible to minors.
