On April 22, for Earth Day, several high school students in Baia Mare managed to draw attention in a unique way to pollution and global warming.

In collaboration with their teachers, they organized a parade with clothing made from recyclable materials.

Because this year's global celebration theme is Planet vs. Plastic, the teenagers paraded in less conventional attire.

Girl: "I made this costume from recyclable materials, such as a nylon bag, flowers, napkins, jute bag and the bow from glazed paper. Not everything should be made of plastic".

Girl: "I made this dress from newspapers. I needed almost 15 newspapers. It took almost a week; we were inspired by the feminine creations of the 1880s".

The teenagers said that, since many young people buy a lot of clothes, and some get bored with them quite easily, they wanted to convey a message through this parade.

Girl: "Let's have respect for our home".

Ileana Vasilescu, geography teacher: "It's a beautiful way of raising awareness, of developing everything good in our students. We can't change the world, but we can change our world".

Also, to further reduce the piles of clothes that end up in the trash eventually, the youth were taught to customize their clothing from their wardrobes to use them for a longer period.

In other places, people chose to celebrate Earth Day by planting trees or participating in waste collection actions.
