Political content will no longer be recommended by Instagram and Threads. It is still unknown how the content will be differentiated
In a year with many elections worldwide, two of Meta's platforms will no longer promote political content in personalized feeds.
Meta will no longer recommend political content to users on Instagram and Threads, announced the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri.

Political content will not be completely blocked, but will no longer be "amplified" by the algorithm, explains the head of Instagram. Users will still be able to see political posts made by people they follow, but politics will disappear from feeds that bring in posts from outside the "bubble".
This means that political posts will no longer appear in sections like Explore and Reels on Instagram and will not be suggested by other users, except those followed on Threads.
It is not clear how exactly Meta technically differentiates political posts from the rest, but the company says it's targeting content related to elections and governments.
Alternatively, for those who are still interested in politics on the two social networks, both Instagram and Threads will offer options for users to choose to have the algorithm prioritize this type of content.
Thus, by default, politics will no longer be recommended on Instagram and Threads, but users can find an option in Settings to include politics among recommendations.
Beyond Meta escaping various criticisms related to how posts from certain political parties appear, this change could also play a role in encouraging political parties that want to be visible on the company's social networks to buy even more ads.
The change will be implemented in the coming weeks.
