In the face of criticism regarding the negative effects of its social networks on young people, Meta has decided to hide posts addressing topics that could give them dangerous ideas.

Meta announces that posts related to certain sensitive topics, such as self-harm, graphic violence, eating disorders and others, will no longer be visible in the newsfeeds of teenagers.

Posts falling into these categories will simply be hidden from the young ones to avoid exposing them to dangerous ideas.

The company states that, before taking this measure, it consulted with experts in adolescent development to decide what types of content should be blocked.

Additionally, teenagers already using Instagram or Facebook will be automatically switched to the most restrictive settings available for both networks.

The strictest measures ever announced by Meta

These settings will block several features. Among other things, teenagers will no longer be able to be contacted except by users they follow, and disturbing comments will be automatically hidden.

These are some of the strictest measures ever taken by Meta to protect teenagers and come against the backdrop of several lawsuits accusing the company of specifically targeting children under 13 and not being transparent about how it manages their accounts.
