The European Commission is investigating Meta over "child protection" concerns on Instagram and Facebook
The European Commission is investigating social media platforms owned by Meta, Facebook and Instagram, to determine how much they contribute to minors' addiction to social networks.
Commission members want to find out if certain algorithms have been intentionally developed to cause addiction.

The investigation also aims to clarify whether the mechanisms for verifying users' ages are accurate, to ensure minors do not have access to content that can affect them emotionally.
Last month, the Commission launched another investigation against these two platforms for not taking sufficient measures to prevent misinformation.
