A video depicting a protest by a group of feminists has gone viral on the internet, sparking widespread controversy. Several French women were recorded protesting against the victory of a far-right political party. These women oppose the National Rally’s authoritarian ideologies and plans. They brought mops and buckets of water to clean the streets symbolically.

Protests have been a part of human history since time immemorial. Loud slogans, banners, and other actions help draw attention to social issues. Protests are typically organised when a large group of people disagree with the prevailing rules. They seek to compel those in power to change their stance on a particular issue. Sometimes, these actions are deliberately controversial to ensure they are noticed by the authorities and not ignored.

France parliamentary elections

The French parliamentary elections took place last weekend. On 1 July, the Ministry of the Interior announced the results of the first round. Not everyone is pleased with the outcome.

The far-right National Rally (RN) and its allies secured the most votes, with 33.2%. The left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) came second, garnering 28% of support. President Emmanuel Macron's Ensemble alliance placed third, with 20% of eligible voters supporting the party.

On 30 June, outraged feminists took to the streets of France. The women brought their mops and began cleaning the pavement in the heart of Paris, near the Eiffel Tower. One local website recorded the incident, and the video quickly went viral online.

The most controversial aspect of the video was that the feminists were not fully clothed, wearing only colourful skirts, high heels, and rubber cleaning gloves. They had anti-fascist slogans written on their chests and water buckets they brought. The group protested against the instrumental treatment of women and was outraged by the outcome of the first round of elections.
