This summer, hundreds of young people are putting fun aside to prepare for their future careers.

We’re talking about those who have secured internships or practice placements. The fortunate ones get the opportunity to work for the university they are studying at and they are paid. However, such positions have been few and competition is fierce.

Diana, 23, is doing her first internship at the veterinary hospital of the University of Life Sciences in Iași this summer. She wants to become a veterinarian and is confident that this experience will help her in her future career.

Diana Iacob, student: "We have a lot of clinical cases, very varied ones. The doctors have great trust in us and we have a huge responsibility to care for these animals".

Like her, other young people are experiencing work in an emergency hospital.

Laboratories are also bustling. Newly hired students are engaged in research work.

This year, 34 internship positions were opened for competition, 8 more than last year. The salary is 3,000 lei per month.

Gerard Jităreanu, Rector of USV Iași: "This year the competition was higher than last year, with more than 2 candidates per position. We considered basic criteria such as academic performance, but also social factors and family income".

At the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University in Iași, students receive a similar amount to oversee activities for students participating in a summer school.
