Hugs from disabled children for firefighters in Botoșani: "They hug you without expecting anything in return"
On July 26th, firefighters from Botoșani were embraced by dozens of disabled children from three countries, as part of a socialization and inclusion experience organized through a European project.
It is said that young people and children with Down syndrome thrive on love, and this is because when you are among them, they hug you without expecting anything in return, write the team from ISU Botoșani.

On July 26th, firefighters from Botoșani received 47 hugs from disabled youth from Latvia, Moldova and Romania, who spent part of the day with them. The youth thoroughly enjoyed the special moments spent with the rescuers during the activity "Inclusion and Empowerment through Sport: Community Partnership with Firefighters".
Several workshops were organized specifically for them. The first one was focused on safety education, where they learned how to administer first aid, were introduced to the fire-fighting vehicles, and received safety tips from the Prevention Department. To make the activity interactive, the firefighters also organized a competition where participants showcased their sports skills after navigating a firefighter-themed obstacle course.
Event organized by associations from three countries
The joys of youth with intellectual disabilities vary, depending on each individual's personality. It is very important to offer them diverse opportunities to explore and enjoy life in ways that bring them the most happiness. For this reason, ISU Botoșani is always involved and supports such activities aimed at changing society's attitude towards people with disabilities by teaching the correct way to interact with them and understanding and accepting differences between people.
The competition took place on the sports field of "Alexandru cel Bun" High School in Botoșani, organized by the "DOWN ACTIV" Association from Moldova. The activity is part of the ERASMUS+ "DOWNside-UP" project, with partners including the NODIBINAJUMS "FONDS KOPA" organization from Riga, Latvia and A.O. Sunshine from Chișinău, Moldova.
The project's main objective is to promote education through non-formal methods, thereby facilitating the development of participants' skills and abilities in an innovative and accessible way. Therefore, the proposed activities aim to transform the perception of uniforms, making them more accessible and friendly, creating a sense of safety and respect.
