Statistics show that between three and four million people aged between13 and 50 have used anabolic steroids, and one million of them have developed steroid addiction. Excessive use of them can significantly increase the risk of health problems, including liver problems, blood pressure, bleeding and fluid retention.

It is very important to know that anabolic steroids can be used when prescribed by a physician to treat specific medical conditions. Unfortunately, they are often used in excess due to the fact that they can build up muscle mass and increase performance. However, their excessive use can affect the physical and mental health, the behavior of an individual, and even the brain.

The most commonly reported psychological problems after steroid use are hallucinations, manic behavior, sudden mood changes. Research shows that taking excessive doses of anabolics may be associated with brain and cognitive abnormalities. Long-term use can negatively affect brain aging.

The link between anabolic steroids and aggression is often debated, but so far there is no concrete evidence for that. However, it is worth noting that the excessive use of such medications in some cases may cause anger, irritability and hostility. They can be caused by secondary hormonal changes. A study of people using anabolics shows that they are more likely to get involved in a fight or robbery.

Another study suggests that the use of anabolics may make people resort to other drugs to alleviate steroid side effects. An extract of the study claims that 86% of those surveyed had started taking various medications for insomnia and irritability caused by steroid use. People who use anabolic steroids in excess can often develop behavior patterns that are typical symptoms of addiction.
