Nemo won Eurovision for Switzerland on May 12th with "The Code", a very personal song about being non-binary, marking the end of a competition marked by controversy, especially regarding Israel's participation.

"I hope this competition will continue to encourage peace and dignity for everyone", said the 24-year-old artist, who scored 591 points, giving the tiny Alpine country its third crown. Nemo scored 365 points but also won over the audience, earning 226 points, allowing them to surpass the favorite, Croatian Baby Lasagna, who garnered 547 points, with a total of 591 points. Ukraine came in third place (453 points) and France in fourth (445 points).

"'The Code' tells the story of the journey I began by realizing that I am neither male nor female", Nemo previously stated, granting the tiny Alpine country, champion of political neutrality, its third crown in a competition that aims to be apolitical. This is Switzerland's first victory since "Ne partez pas sans moi" performed by Celine Dion in 1988.

Thousands protested against Israel's participation in Eurovision

Israeli artist Eden Golan, whose presence in Malmo sparked heated controversy as her country is at war with Hamas in Gaza, ranked fifth, scoring 323 points with the song "Hurricane".

Israel qualified for Saturday's final of the Eurovision music contest in Malmo, Sweden, where thousands protested against the country's participation in the competition amid the Gaza war.

Young artist Eden Golan secured her place in the final on Thursday with the song "Hurricane", whose original version had to be modified because it alluded to the attack by the Islamist group Hamas that bloodied Israel on October 7th.
