Controversy surrounding female boxers at the Paris Olympics
At the 2024 Summer Olympics, the bouts of two female boxers—Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan—garnered significant attention. Both athletes had previously been disqualified from other competitions due to having natural XY chromosomes.
In one of the matches, Khelif faced Italy's Angela Carini, who withdrew from the competition after just 46 seconds, stating that she had never been hit so hard before.
Donald Trump: "Men will not be playing in women's sports"
Donald Trump was a guest on the "Clay and Buck" radio show, hosted by OutKick founder Clay Travis, where he expressed his views on the controversy surrounding the Paris Olympics boxing competition. The former U.S. president highlighted what he perceived as the absurdity of the situation, describing the case of a young female boxer who had to forfeit the fight after two punches.
"Men will not be playing in women's sports," Trump stated firmly. "When you look at this young lady… just look and say, ‘Oh man, what hit me? I just got hit by a horse!’ I've never seen that where two jabs [made her say] ‘I’ve had enough.' It's ridiculous," he remarked during the show.
Elon Musk supported Trump's promise. Known for expressing his opinions on various topics, Musk endorsed Trump’s stance in a post on X, simply commenting, "Good." Musk's support intensified the discussion and added weight to the debate.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had previously defended its decision to allow Khelif and Lin to compete in the women's category. IOC spokesman Mark Adams stressed that both athletes had competed in the Tokyo Games and emphasised that stigmatising athletes is unhelpful. Adams called for de-escalating tensions and avoiding a "witch hunt."
