Logan Brown - transgender man raises child with partner
Logan's life partner is Bailey J. Millis - a British drag queen. Bailey is non-binary and uses gender-neutral pronouns. The family showed a photo of the baby on social media.
In an interview with Glamour, Logan details what he went through when he found out he was pregnant.
"One day, I had this really weird feeling; it was early in the morning and Bailey was asleep. I took a pregnancy test and it was positive. I’d been off testosterone for a while due to some health issues. It was like my whole world just stopped. That everything, all my manlihood that I’ve worked hard for, for so long, just completely felt like it was erased."
He adds that he struggled for quite a long time to accept his body and the situation he and Bailey found themselves in.
"I realised I didn’t want the thought of having to get rid of the baby when it was happening inside my body; it was a really, really weird feeling. And I kind of got connected to that, and I was like, ‘I’m never gonna get this opportunity again’ to – as a queer couple – have a baby that’s biologically both ours. Which is really special to me, and eventually, something just clicked".- says the man.
Logan Brown salutes the next generation
"This thing about ‘men can’t get pregnant’ is that I would not identify as anything else just because I found out I’m pregnant. It’s important for me to stay real with my identity. I am a pregnant man, and I am trans.
"I try to stay positive and I think that if something is being talked about, then something’s changing, something’s happening and we’re getting somewhere. At least it’s being talked about, because back in the day, it was never talked about at all.
"I’m a pregnant trans man and I do exist. No matter what anyone says."- Logan told in an interview with British "Glamour" magazine.
His story can be an inspiration to other transgender people - not to be afraid to be themselves and accentuate their identity. His example normalises the view of a pregnant man, still shocking to society.
Yes, men can get pregnant. They can menstruate. A full transition based on reproductive surgery is not a determinant of whether someone can call themselves a man or a woman. It only determines identity. Issues of medical procedures are individual - and for various reasons (including safety) often impossible to carry out. This absolutely does not detract from anyone and should not stand in the way of feeling good about oneself.
Logan Brown releases book "My Daddy's Belly"
A man has created a book that tells the story of the excitement and anticipation of two fathers for the birth of their child. It is written in simple and clear language, is child-friendly and explains in an understandable and accessible way the basic facts about how a transgender man can give birth to a child.
"My Daddy's Belly" can be preordered - presumably soon to be a hit with queer bookshops.
