The Transylvania University dormitories in Brașov are full of bedbugs. "It's pretty nasty. There's nothing we can do about it"
Invasion of bedbugs in a student dormitory at Transylvania University in Brașov. The parasites managed to sneak into the mattresses and pillows of some young people, and now the administration is forced to do pest control.
To eliminate the problem, they need to replace the skirting boards, sockets and furniture where the troublesome insects could hide. Perhaps even the flooring.

The appearance of bedbugs was reported by students staying in a four-person room on the sixth floor of a dormitory. The administration has relocated them to other rooms, as well as those nearby.

Student: "I'm aware that they were found only in the mattresses and the wooden frame beneath them, which is concerning, and also in some pillows".
Student: "It's not very pleasant, considering that the whole building could be infected, leading to other problems".
To eradicate the bedbugs, the administration has already conducted two rounds of pest control and will need to repeat the process.
Daniel Munteanu, Vice-Rector of Transylvania University Brașov: "The challenge lies in the considerable cost of the intervention, and we are hopeful that such measures will not need to be undertaken frequently. The total bill exceeds 20,000 lei".
Additionally, skirting boards, sockets and wooden boards, where bedbugs usually nest, will be replaced. Even the flooring may need to be changed. Students are upset that they were not informed about the situation and found out by chance that they need to take precautionary measures.
Student: "It's pretty nasty, but we can't do anything about it, I mean, I know you can't get rid of them. No one even informed us about this. We learned about it from each other".
Bedbugs can penetrate small and narrow places and can be difficult to notice during the day. They emerge from their hiding places during the night to seek out food. Their bite causes swellings accompanied by a painful burning sensation and itching. These insects can live for up to two years without feeding, and in one year, they can lay between 300 and 500 eggs.
