However, virtual meetings cannot replace the chemistry you can have with a person. Virtual meetings - very popular during the pandemic - are back in vogue, as going out in the city has become costly for today's youth.

Generation Z, in particular, has embraced the idea of virtual meetings, both to save money and time.

According to the dating app Wingman, 65% of users aged 18 to 27 choose to have a video "first date" instead of meeting face-to-face.

Wingman founder Tina Wilson told Business Insider that this statistic, obtained from a survey of 500 users, shows the most notable change from the peak of the pandemic.

"The users in this younger age group just absolutely don’t bat an eye at it. They view it as efficient and great. You can engage in a brief conversation and see if there's that spark", Wilson remarks.

However, some still try to simulate the idea of a date, so they often order food and have dinner together, but remotely, through a video call.

Eunice Cycle, a musician living in Toronto, said she feels that people in her generation are "tired of the dating process".

"A lot of people in Gen Z, if they're on Tinder, Hinge or Bumble, are also seeing multiple people at the same time. So that's why they might prefer online dates, because you could go on multiple dates in a day without leaving the house", she said.

Lalitaa Suglani, a relationship expert with a PhD in psychology, said virtual meetings offer convenience, flexibility and safety.

People can "measure compatibility" and "establish relationships" in a way that is not energetically draining, she said.

"First virtual dates can provide valuable information about a person's personality, communication style and interests before meeting in person", she said.
