More than 1,000 young Romanians have the chance to travel for free in Europe through the DiscoverEU program. How to apply
A total of 1,475 young Romanians have the opportunity to explore Europe by traveling for free by train, within the DiscoverEU project.
In this round, the European Commission offers 35,500 travel permits to young people born between July 1, 2005 (inclusive) and June 30, 2006 (inclusive), residing in an EU member state or in a third country associated with the Erasmus+ program (Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey).

How to apply
The application period is April 16 (1:00 PM, Romania time) - April 30 (1:00 PM, Romania time). To benefit from the travel permits, eligible young people must register by accessing the European Youth Portal.
To obtain a free travel permit, they must correctly complete the registration form, answer a quiz about the European Union and EU opportunities for young people and also a question that will facilitate the selection of those registered.
"Starting with this round, winning young people who opt for a flexible permit will have the opportunity to reserve up to 4 train seats for free, through the online system provided by the official contractor of the European Commission", a press release states.
Winners will be able to travel in Europe individually or in groups of up to 5 people, for up to 30 days, between July 1, 2024 and September 30, 2025.
"The selected young people will also benefit from a card with over 40,000 discounts on public transport, culture, accommodation, food, sports and other services available in eligible countries.They will also be able to receive preparation before departure from the Erasmus+ National Agency, and during the journey, they may have the opportunity to meet other travelers at Meet-up events organized by Erasmus+ National Agencies from other countries", a press release specifies.
How many young Romanians have left so far
In the previous round, in October 2023, 6,335 young people from Romania applied, of which 1,509 received a travel permit. In total, from 2018 to the present, over 33,000 young people from Romania have applied under the DiscoverEU initiative, of which over 11,500 have received a travel permit.
