Energy drinks for adults only? Poland’s new law
This is the end of underage consumption of energy drinks. President Andrzej Duda has signed a law that prohibits the sale of energy drinks to children and young people under the age of 18 in Poland.
According to the new law, people under the age of 18 will not be able to buy energy drinks containing caffeine or taurine. In addition, the manufacturers of such beverages are now obliged to label the product with a legible, visible and permanently placed notice describing the contents of a container as an "energy drink".

The ban extends not only to shops
Popular energy drinks will not be available for purchase on school premises neither in shops nor vending machines. Those who break the ban on the sale of energy drinks to children will be subject to a fine of up to 2,000 zlotys (€450).
Energy drinks imported from abroad will also be subject to control. If they are not labelled in accordance with the law, the importer will be subject to a fine of up to PLN 200,000 (€45,000) or restriction of personal liberty, or both penalties simultaneously.
The law concerning the labelling of such drinks comes into force on 1 September 2023. The law concerning the prohibition of the sale of energy drinks on the premises of schools and other units of the educational system, as well as in vending machines comes into force exactly a year later.
