On Saturday, 17 June 2023, Sofia Pride - a traditional procession in support of the LGBTIQ + community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer people) once again walked through the streets of Sofia.

It is the biggest human rights event and it has been held for the 16th time in a row.

"Sofia Pride family is getting bigger and stronger with each running year. We are very proud that for the 16th time in a row we will raise the voice of love and will be able to draw attention to how important it is for every person in Bulgaria to have equal human rights. We are all walking together on this long road and despite the small and difficult steps towards the legislative changes we have proposed - we will continue to protest peacefully and fight for equality", said Simeon Vasilev, chairman and co-founder of the Voice Foundation.

Despite the rain on Saturday, citizens came to the concert, part of Sofia Pride, in front of the Monument of the Soviet Army in the Knyazhevska Garden in Sofia. Some of the attendees waved flags with the colors of the rainbow. There were lots of police officers on duty during the event.

At 8:00 p.m., the peaceful procession of the participants in the Pride started walking along "G. S. Rakovski". The car traffic and public transport were not functioning. Three trucks took part in the procession - platforms where powerful loudspeakers were placed with DJs playing.

The colorful procession walked under high security measures.

Organizers of the event warned the participants that after the procession was over, they should leave in large groups and cover up the various pride symbols, as there was a risk of being targeted by people who did not support them.
