There are a couple of things that Gen Z should follow in order to reduce the risk of depression. It is proven that quality sleep, physical activity, frequent social connections, abstinence from smoking and limiting alcohol consumption are lifestyle factors that can be extremely beneficial for any individual.

Adequate sleep - sleep is the most important factor. Between seven and nine hours of sleep a night reduces the risk of depression.

Inadequate sleep can lead to challenges managing emotions, which increases the risk of future depression.

Frequent social connection – it has been identified as the most effective measure against recurrent depressive disorders, reducing the risk of depression.

Healthy diet - a healthy diet reduces the risk of depression. In this way, people can take a step forward in combating the symptoms of depression - or prevent it altogether.

Healthy diets can be an easy way to work towards better mental health.

Regular physical activity - sports and exercise reduce the risk of depression quite a lot. Physical activity is more effective in reducing mild to moderate symptoms of depression, psychological distress, and anxiety than medication or therapy. That is why it is very important for people to exercise regularly, as this way they relieve themselves mentally.

Forget about cigarettes - if you don't smoke, you will reduce the risk of depression by at least 15-20 per cent. Smoking can expose people to various health problems, so it is advisable to avoid this unhealthy, risky and harmful habit.

Limiting alcohol consumption - moderate alcohol consumption reduces the risk of depression. However, the greater the amounts of alcohol consumed and the more regular the intake are, the more likely a person will develop temporary anxiety. As consumption increases, symptoms are likely to increase as well.

Minimizing sedentary lifestyle - low to moderate sedentary lifestyle reduces the risk of depression, too.
