EU calls on a pop star to mobilize youth to vote
In an attempt to mobilize as many young people as possible to vote, the European Union seeks the help of an international pop music singer.
Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, wants to encourage young people to vote this year and is asking for the help of American singer Taylor Swift. The superstar will be in Europe ahead of the June elections in the European bloc.

"No one can mobilize young people better than young people. They are the ones who can mobilize their peers to participate more than commissioners. I sincerely hope that someone from her press team will follow this press conference and convey our request", said Schinas on January 10 during a press conference, according to Politico.
It is not the first time Taylor Swift has urged young people to vote. Last September, the singer encouraged her 272 million followers on Instagram to register to vote, and within a few hours, Vote.org reported over 35,000 registrations, a 23% increase from the previous year.
The Vice President of the European Commission says that young people's participation in the European elections in June is crucial for democracy. At the same time, Schinas hopes that Swift will be able to urge as many young people as possible to vote.
Taylor Swift will launch the European leg of her record-breaking "Eras Tour" in the spring of 2024, not long before the European elections. The artist will perform in Paris on May 9, Europe Day.
