A new heatwave "melts" the last days of winter. In the southern regions, temperatures reached as high as 22 degrees.

Meteorologists are preparing to document a new record: the warmest February in history. Meanwhile, people have enjoyed the sun and the sea.

This is how the end of winter looks like in Bucharest - with bird chirping, budding trees, bright sun and relaxed people taking a stroll.

Calendar-wise, it's the last weekend of winter, but if we look around, it seems that spring has taken its rights for a long time. A Mediterranean air mass is responsible for this beautiful weather. In Bucharest, the temperature is 21 degrees Celsius, but the sun makes it feel even warmer.

Reporter: You ditched both the jacket and the sweater.

Woman: "Yes, yes. I ditched many layers. It's nice outside, it's summer weather".

Reporter: Did you take out your shorts from the closet?

Man: "Yes, I took them out. It's warm, good weather is coming".

Most weather stations in the southern part of the country recorded temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius. In Filaret, Zimnicea or Călărași, for example, there were even 22 degrees Celsius. The coastal areas also experienced warm weather.

The splendid spring weather livened up the beaches in Mamaia resort. The little ones play in the sand, and the adults enjoy the sun, the sea and the 16 degrees Celsius.

Reporter: How is the weather today on the coast?

Woman: "It's wonderful".

The Casino's esplanade in Constanța was full of people taking photos and enjoying the spectacle of the waves.

Woman: "It's perfect, the first time at the sea with the little one".

Family: "We had a day off and we decided to go on a short trip".

Woman: "It's beautiful, extraordinary weather, it's beautiful".

Tomis Harbor was just as crowded as in the middle of summer. Many people sat at terraces.

Tourist: "We're awaiting our food, planning to grab a bite, and afterward, we'll return to the beach to enjoy the sun a bit longer".

While we appreciate the early spring, meteorologists warn that it's detrimental to the planet. Each passing month brings rising temperatures, breaking new records.

Elena Mateescu, the general director of National Meteorological Administration (ANM): "Potentially the warmest February in the history of meteorological measurements, as at present, we are already observing a positive temperature anomaly of 6.2 degrees Celsius. This surpasses, we might say, the record set in February 2016, with a temperature anomaly of 5.7 degrees Celsius".

And the previous month was declared the warmest month of January ever recorded since the commencement of measurements.
