20 Things You Can do To Save the Planet
Every person on this planet is important and can contribute to its protection.
Here are some specific actions Gen Z can take to save the planet.
1. Drink without plastic straws as they are a big environmental problem. They are produced in huge quantities and pollute the oceans.
2. Use paper straws - although we should consider the need for straws for disabled people, we should try to avoid plastic straws as much as possible.
3. Paint the walls of your house in light colors so that sunlight is reflected and you don't need to turn on the lights until dusk.
4. Consume local products - eating local products supports trade nearby and prioritizes the products that are closest to each other. Large-scale freight transport generates pollution.
5. Yes to recycling clothes - mass consumerism pollutes the environment. Clothes can be reused. Thrift stores can have both fashion and environmental value.
6. Look for a bottle made of non-polluting material and always carry it with you to fill it with water. You will save money and above all contribute to the care for the planet.
7. Choose recyclable items and sustainable materials. Nowadays, the supply of household items that are not made of plastic is great. Example: toothbrushes have a bamboo version.
8. Eat seasonal fruit and vegetables - transporting fruit and vegetables from the other side of the planet to satisfy our whims causes environmental problems.
9. Try to reduce the consumption of red meat.
10. Industrial animal agriculture harms the planet because of the grass the animals eat and the gases they emit. The latter account for 9% of human-generated carbon dioxide, 65% of nitrous oxide, 37% of methane and 64% of ammonia, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
11. It is better to take a shower than to fill the bathtub. And do not dawdle as water is getting scarcer.
12. You can save a lot of water if you run the cold water before you shower and then use it to scrub the floor after you are done showering.
13. Do not cover the radiators - it is important that no objects or clothing cover the radiators. This would make it difficult for hot air to diffuse.
14. A big portion of the heat generated during cooking goes out when you do not put a lid on the pans. Besides waiting longer to heat the pan or boil the water, you will use more energy with a longer-running cooker.
15. The oven doesn't lose heat as soon as you turn it off, so you can take advantage of its remaining heat to finish what you are cooking.
16. Always turn off lights you are not using, even if it is just for a minute. It is not true that switching the lights on and off for a short period of time increases the consumption.
17. Do not pull the curtains or blinds until nightfall, so that you can use the electric light much less time.
18. Turn off your router at night when you are out of the house and whenever you are not using it. A router actually consumes more power than a computer.
19. If you are not going to use the computer for two hours, you’d better turn it off
20. Water the plants in the morning or in the evening to avoid the hours of water evaporation from the sunlight
