We live in difficult times. The pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the economic crisis all add up to rising inflation. This means that everything is getting more and more expensive. Poles are therefore looking for ways to save money.

Consumers are increasingly opting for online shopping instead of going to physical shops. This is quite a problem for the latter, as they do not get as much revenue as they would like. In addition, due to inflation and the economic crisis, Poles in general are buying less because they want to save money.

But what do we, as a society, save the most on? Which products do we most often buy online? We will explain everything in a moment.

Poles save money, shops have problems

The Mobile Institute and the Chamber of Digital Economy have issued a report on Poles' spending. It shows that in 2023 15% of respondents switched to online purchases of household appliances and electronics, clothes and fashion accessories. In addition, another 9% of respondents will switch to buying electronic devices online and additional 11% want to buy clothes and accessories on the Internet.

"This year, Poles are much more likely to move their large purchases, such as consumer electronics/appliances, fashion, cosmetics, children's products and automotive, online. In 2022, these were mainly purchases of various forms of entertainment, i.e. subscriptions to platforms such as Netflix or online games, as well as food with home delivery and various trainings and courses", the report's authors explain in an interview with Rzeczpospolita.

Inflation affects consumers

Inflation has caused trade to slow down. People have less money, so they are cutting down on spending, especially on what they consider to be major expenses. As we read in Rzeczpospolita, the NielsenIQ data shows that only during this summer holiday season the grocery market shrank by 4%, and by more than 8% when it comes to alcohol market. It is clear that consumers do not want to spend money as often as in the past.
