Venice continues its fight against mass tourism. Following the implementation of a temporary €5 tax, authorities have announced new restrictions on group visits.

Therefore, a tour guide can now lead a maximum of 25 people through the City of Canals at one time. And is no longer allowed to use a megaphone.

Officials aim to curb the influx of tourists that is overwhelming Venice. The area is experiencing an exodus of locals amidst the steady rise in the number of foreign visitors.

In 2019, 13 million tourists visited Venice. Estimates suggest that, after the decline during the pandemic, this number will soon be exceeded.
