Travelling to the UK? Prepare to pay additional fee
The UK government is preparing to introduce a mandatory, paid entry document for individuals wishing to travel to the country. The move aims to curb abuses of the immigration system. The new regulations will apply to Polish citizens as well.
Although the United Kingdom is no longer part of the European Union, it remains a popular destination for travellers from around the world, including Polish nationals. Currently, entry to the UK is relatively straightforward, requiring only a passport and basic documentation, with no visa needed. However, this is expected to change soon due to new measures being introduced by the British government.

In an effort to combat immigration system abuse, the government plans to implement a mandatory, paid document for travellers, including those from visa-free countries. The aim is to exert greater control over who enters the country. Despite introducing this new requirement, travellers can take some comfort in the fact that the document will be relatively inexpensive, with the cost set at just Ā£10.
Additional fee for travelling to the UK
The British government is set to gradually introduce the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), a new digital entry requirement. Initially, it will apply to the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. According to polsatnews.pl, citizens of these nations will be able to apply for the ETA from 27 November, and from 8 January 2025, entry into the UK will not be permitted without it.
Shortly after that, the requirement will extend to European countries. Polish citizens will be subject to the new rules starting from 2 April, with applications opening on 5 March.
The ETA will be digitally linked to the traveller's passport, and a dedicated UK ETA App will be launched to facilitate applications. The process is expected to take up to three working days, and the authorisation will be valid for two years or until the passport expires. ETA holders will be able to enter the UK multiple times and stay for up to six months per visit.
