Bianca, 17, is intensively preparing for the EuroSkills Competition of Professions, where she will compete in the hairstyling and hairdressing section. Although she initially wanted to attend a high school with a humanistic profile, she now appreciates everything she has learned at a technical high school.
Bianca Rădună, a student at the UCECOM "Spiru Haret" College in Bucharest: "I had the impression that this high school is not as good as it actually is and that I couldn't meet the standards I had in mind. The Competition I will participate in consists of 7 stages, with several branches, including hairdressing, hairstyling, coloring, women's haircuts and perms".
Now she realizes that psychology, the faculty she wanted to apply to before, blends very well with the profession of a hair stylist, and she can pursue both in parallel.
Alongside her, 9 other young Romanians will participate at the EuroSkills Competition in Poland, in sections such as Mechatronics, Computer-Aided Design, Graphic Design, Web Development, and Fashion Technology.
For example, two young people will compete in the Industrial Robot Integration section.
Krasznai Györk Attila, student: "We work a lot, because we both have jobs, and after work, we prepare for the competition. I played with Lego when I was a child and built robots, and I liked it a lot, so I thought I would do something more complex and at a higher level".
Vlad Fenesan, coordinator: "We selected 2 of the best students from 4 universities in Romania. It is a significant opportunity, especially for students, given the current labor shortage in Romania in the field of automation and industry".
Victor Dumitrache, Program Director at WorldSkills Romania: "The purpose of these competitions is to increase the attractiveness of professions. Middle school students, seeing that they can excel in fields such as tailoring, hairdressing or mechatronics, could realize that there are development opportunities in any field, and they don't have to follow trends".
During the EuroSkill Competition in Poland, scheduled from the 5th to the 9th of September, more than 600 participants, all under 25 years old, representing 32 different countries, will be taking part.
