The Minister of the Environment promises that more such devices will be placed along the coast. Currently, beach waste is collected by sanitation companies.

Reporter: I see you're loaded up!

Tourist: "Yes, and we have more".

Tourists arriving at the beach in Mamaia now have the opportunity to recycle their containers on site. The equipment has three collection openings, each capable of collecting 150 containers per minute simultaneously.

Mihaela Tapazu, Director of the Green Planet Association: "Whether it's a can, plastic or glass, use the machine and receive a voucher valid at a nearby store".

Man: "In general, everyone has problems with PET bottles, especially at the seaside. In the city, it's easier to recycle them, but here on the beach, if you take a bottle, there's not much you can do with it afterward".

Man: "You're saving money, instead of littering the beach. We used to see bottles and trash, papers and all sorts of junk everywhere. So whoever came up with this idea had a very good one".

During the Pentecost holiday, a new national record was set—over 14 million containers were collected in a single day. Almost 20% of this amount came from seaside resorts.

Lucian Marcu, beach manager: "For us, it was very important to keep the beach clean and to give tourists the chance to actively participate in this waste recovery program".

Mircea Fechet, Minister of the Environment: "Nine such machines will be installed, some of which will serve the coastline here in the Constanța area, with one even being placed in the Danube Delta reserve".

Every year, tens of thousands of pieces of waste end up on the beaches. Plastic is the most common—over 21,000 pieces.

Adrian Bâlbă, biologist: "If we don't take care, the plastic broken down by the waves will, in a few years, become microplastic and enter the bodies of marine creatures".

Since the beginning of this summer season, more than a ton of plastic waste has been collected just from the beaches of Constanța and Mamaia.
