From Arctic Cold to Tropical Heat: How Do Our Gymnasts Train?
Our best gymnasts experience from arctic cold to tropical heat in the sportshall where they have to train daily. There they train in miserable conditions, with constant leaks, sub-zero temperatures in the winter and heat over 40 degrees in the summer. These are the conditions in the "Levski Triaditsa" sportshall where our golden girls of rhythmic gymnastics train. The place that gives birth to and trains our gymnasts is in urgent need of renovation.
After many years of difficult conditions and trying to get the necessary funds, a contract has finally been signed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, but the club has to participate with co-financing of 50% of the total value. The required sum is BGN 210,000 and is beyond their means.
"The premises were built specifically for rhythmic gymnastics, they have the height and the required flooring. But that is all. From then on, we deal with cold, heat, insufficient ventilation. We, as a non-profit club, can only do the maintenance. We are grateful to the parents who have been getting involved and supporting. But we cannot do something big like thermal insulation", said coach Maria Kancheva.
"It is awful in the winter. I put on a lot of clothes, it took me 2-3 hours to warm up. The summer in the heat in also a nightmare," said Madlen Radukanova.
