Barbara Nowacka is changing the education system
Changes to the regulation on framework teaching plans will take effect on 1 September 2024. Minister Barbara Nowacka signed the document on 21 May 2024. In a press release, the Ministry of Education stated that the regulation mainly includes similar solutions to those currently in force in the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of 3 April 2019 on framework teaching plans for public schools.
What exactly will change? In the school year 2024/2025, students who start their education in the first classes of secondary schools, such as general secondary, technical, trade, and general secondary schools for adults, will no longer be taught the subject "History and the Present" (Polish: Historia i TeraĆșniejszoĆÄ, often abbreviated to HiT). In the following years, HiT will be gradually phased out and eventually discontinued.
First aid classes for all students
Barbara Nowacka has emphasised the importance of learning life-saving skills. First aid classes will be mandatory in primary schools from 4th to 7th grade and in secondary schools from 2nd grade up. These lessons will be incorporated into homeroom classes.
Barbara Nowacka's regulation reduces the period that education at a trade or post-secondary school could be prolonged from two years to one year. Additionally, the Minister of National Education has increased the number of general education classes in higher-level trade schools and decreased the number in lower-level trade schools.
