Signals that You Have Parent who Damage You Emotionally
You have certainly heard that sometimes parents inflict emotional trauma on their children, if you have not been in such a situation. Often cases from our childhood have impact on our consciousness and further in life, but we do not realize it.
Here are some of the most common signs that you have emotionally abusive parents.
1. If they are moody. Frequent mood swings and temper tantrums may cause tension and confusion in children.
2. Your parents are overly critical. Sometimes it impacts your childhood in terms of actions, grades at school, etc., and subsequently you accept it as normal to often criticize yourself and set too high standards for yourself, which in turn damages you emotionally.
3. They have a hard time dealing with their own emotions. Parents who fail to deal with their worries and negative emotions often transfer this to their children.
4. Implication of guilt is a common manipulation technique used by parents.
5. A parent who is often absent is one thing, but it is also harmful if the parent is present but emotionally unavailable. They might be always focused on their phone, holed up in their home office, or more severe cases when they use drugs or alcohol excessively. If this is something experienced as a child, you may find it hard to relate to people as an adult, often feeling detached.
The opposite is also harmful for a child, as he/she also needs some freedom. All these things actions and behaviour of your parents shape you as a person and you often take traits from them as adults.
