The favorite spots of the LGBTQ+ community in Bucharest. Plus, gay clubs in major cities
Major European cities have gay-friendly neighborhoods filled with vibrant clubs frequented by the LGBTQ+ community. Bucharest does not have such a neighborhood, but there are clubs that try to recreate this atmosphere.
In Romania, the gay community still faces a complex and difficult situation because society’s attitude towards LGBTQ+ remains conservative, especially in rural areas and among the older population. Homophobia and discrimination are still significant problems. The conclusion? Most of the gay community is still in the closet.

And if there is no demand for such places, obviously, there is no supply.
However, there are certain places and clubs in major cities like Constanța, Cluj and, of course, Bucharest, where the gay community can feel free. But these places do not form dedicated neighborhoods; rather, they are individual locations scattered throughout the cities.
After several failed attempts, SOHO opened in Constanța - a club where anyone is welcome, as long as they understand they are in a gay club.
There is also a SOHO in Cluj. But it is a sauna. Obviously, it is an 18+ location. Additionally, Cluj has had Delirio for over a decade - a straight-friendly club. It is an LGBTQ+ venue, but all open-minded people are welcome. Delirio has also opened a branch in Sibiu.
Furthermore, according to Google, there are two bars in Iași: Cuib și Acaju.
As expected, most gay venues are in Bucharest, three nightclubs or bars: Club Q, Iub Bar and Thor – all located in the old town. There is also a sauna and a gay-friendly nightclub, Apollo, which is highly appreciated in the LGBTQ+ community.
