Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' is in no way supportive of LGBTQ+ people, which doesn't exactly please her fans. Should all pop stars help the rainbow community?

Music's biggest stars on tour are increasingly supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and these aren't always some grand gestures. Miley Cyrus' concert saw a gay man propose, Harry Styles during 'Love on Tour' repeatedly helped his fans come out, and BeyoncĂ© set up gender-neutral toilets on her tour.

Hence, Taylor Swift's inaction during the 'Eras Tour' is quite telling. Why is the person who hosts the biggest music shows not in any way supportive of the LGBTQ+ community she supposedly sympathises with? The artist should definitely follow Lizzo's example.

Taylor Swift does not support LGBTQ+ people on 'Eras Tour'

When Taylor Swift released the music video for her single 'Lavender Haze' featuring a transgender model a few months ago, fans were delighted that she was supporting the LGBTQ+ community in such a way. Now that joy has given way to irritation.

Journalist Jeffrey Ingold, in the Guardian article, wonders why the singer does not address the situation of the LGBTQ+ community on her 'Eras Tour' at all. He points out that Swift also performs in the states that have introduced anti-LGBTQ+ laws and in no way supports rainbow people there.

One has to admit that this is truly surprising. After all, Swift has been trying to be an ally to this community for a few years now. She has donated to LGBTQ+ organisations, released the antihomophobic single 'You Need to Calm Down' and recently hired a transgender model. However, now that she is being watched by millions and breaks records with her 'Eras Tour', she has gone silent.

Should Taylor Swift support LGBTQ+ fans on the 'Eras Tour'?

For sure, one can ask whether Swift should be speaking out for LGBTQ+ people on tour at all. According to the Guardian journalist, showing support is actually a necessity, as it would not only allow Taylor to help her rainbow fans, but also influence the views of people who do not entirely support the members of this community.

Especially since virtually all major pop stars are choosing to make such gestures. The journalist claims however, that they are still not doing it enough. He cites Madonna, who enclosed a card detailing The Facts About AIDS to her 1989’s 'Like a Prayer' album, as an example to follow.

"Considering we’re living through an era of humanitarian and climate crises with a growing backlash against the rights of women, people of colour and LGBTQ+ people, today’s pop stars aren’t taking radical enough action", the Guardian journalist points out.

Should Taylor Swift emulate Lizzo?

Silent Taylor Swift should take a cue from Lizzo. On Friday 19 May the body-positive artist gave a concert in Nebraska. This is on of the states that recently not only restricted the right to abortion, but also health care for transgender youth.

During the concert, Lizzo chose to address these changes. She spoke to transgender people and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, sharing her support. She indicated that everyone who comes to her concert should know her supportive views on reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ people.

‘It really breaks my heart that there are young people growing up in a world that doesn’t protect them," she said. Don’t let anyone tell you who you are. These laws are not real. You are what’s real, and you deserve to be protected," Lizzo appealed, expressing her support.

On Twitter, fans rave about the artist's approach and solidarity. They thank her for showing them her support so openly, and for having always been a wonderful ally. There is no denying the fact that the same cannot be said about Taylor Swift.
