A lot of trees were planted in Rzeszów this year. There is, however, another aspect that makes the city's policy towards greenery exceptional.

Thanks to the current tree-planting initiative, Rzeszów is becoming one of the greenest cities in Poland. In 2023 alone, more than 1,000 trees will start growing there. What is more, the exact spots where they are planted are being consulted with residents.

"It is simply worth investing in greenery to make life friendlier so that the inhabitants feel comfortable and satisfied," City Council spokesman Artur Gernand told Euronews.

This is important because the inhabitants know best where they need shade, where they need this green colour

Euronews also reported that, according to the results of a recent study by Spanish and American scientists, people who are surrounded by greenery are 2.5 years younger biologically than those who do not have access to it.

Rzeszów plants trees when other cities cut them down

The initiative by Rzeszów's officials deserves more recognition because too many cities nowadays instead of growing trees resort to pouring concrete everywhere. In Krakow, city activists and residents are trying to defend over 1,000 trees from being cut down.

Trees create a microclimate that lowers the temperature. In the shade of trees it can be as much as 20 degrees Celsius cooler than in direct sunlight. This is extremely valuable taking into consideration the heat waves we will be facing with increasing frequency if initiatives to fight the climate crisis are not intensified.
