Over 300 jackals in the Danube Delta will be "extracted" by next year to limit the damage caused to humans
A total of 350 jackals will be culled from the Danube Delta by next spring, representatives of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration (ARBDD) announced.
According to the law, the term "extraction" refers to the killing of animals that cause problems.

"Given the complaints from the local population regarding the damage caused by jackals, recent studies, distribution mapping and numerical evaluations, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration (ARBDD) has submitted a notification to the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests - the central public authority responsible for hunting - and has received approval for the culling/harvesting during the hunting season (01.05.2024 - 31.12.2024 and 01.01.2025 - 30.04.2025) of 350 specimens of this species, from the vicinity of the localities where damage has been or will be reported", ARBDD representatives stated.
They specified that a service contract has already been signed regarding the controlled removal/harvesting of jackals from the perimeter of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve with the Tulcea County Association of Hunters and Sport Fishermen.
"The extraction will be carried out with priority around the localities in the Danube Delta to limit damage and discourage the jackal species from entering human settlements", the cited source mentioned.
ARBDD representatives added that the extraction will be conducted according to a weekly schedule, with notification to the administrative-territorial units where the action will take place, at least 48 hours in advance.
