The Sejm's 10th term proceedings are live-streamed to hundreds of thousands of viewers, prompting questions about a potential rebirth of civil society in Poland.

The Sejm's YouTube channel achieved a milestone on Monday, December 11th, by reaching 500,000 subscribers. Additionally, nearly 300,000 people watched Mateusz Morawiecki's exposé, which is an impressive number for any influencer.

The Sejm meeting on the same day has already garnered over 4 million views on YouTube, which accounts for one-sixth of all the views on the channel.

Sejm session with record-breaking number of views

The Sejm's YouTube channel has been active since March 15, 2017. To date, the channel has uploaded 917 videos, which have garnered a total of 24 million views. One-sixth of these views are related to the deliberations during which Mateusz Morawiecki delivered his exposé. These statistics are indeed impressive.

Additionally, Sejm's deliberations frequently appear in the "Trending" section on YouTube, which means that the videos are viral, and the platform promotes them to increase their visibility to more internet users.

Civil society awakened [OPINION]

On Sunday, 15 October, it was announced that a part of the united opposition would be taking power in Poland. This news has sparked quite a revival of civil society, characterised by people’s ability to be active, self-organize, and achieve set goals without state authority. This renewed belief in the power of their opinions has led Poles to believe that politicians must consider them more often.

A notable example of this is the live streaming of the Sejm proceedings, which has garnered unprecedented views. Moreover, the viewers in the chat room placed alongside the broadcast on YouTube display an unusual level of engagement and commitment. Consequently, people are now keen on following political events in the country and consider watching their representatives in the plenary chamber worthwhile.

It's great to see the nation taking a renewed interest in the deliberations of the Sejm. It's a reminder that politics is not just the flip-flopping of arguments between MPs. It's about having meaningful conversations about issues that affect everyone's lives.
