Smoking bans are enforced in many public places in Poland. There has been a noticeable increase in awareness of the harmful effects of the habit in recent years. The Ministry of Health is currently considering implementing further restrictions. One of the solutions being discussed is the possibility of banning smoking on balconies.

It is well known that smoking has a negative impact on public health. It affects not only smokers but also those who are exposed to cigarette smoke. Like many other countries, Poland has laws banning smoking in various public places. Recently, the Ministry of Health has received a petition to make these rules stricter.

Where is smoking banned?

Poland has implemented a comprehensive smoking ban in many public places. This includes public transport stops, sports facilities, areas designated for children's play, educational institution grounds, and other areas marked with no-smoking signs. To avoid unintentional exposure to secondhand smoke, it's advisable to be aware of and steer clear of these designated smoking areas.

Smoking ban on balconies?

Reports from Polish media suggest that a petition has been submitted to the Ministry of Health, calling for a complete ban on smoking tobacco products and e-cigarettes on balconies and in windows of multi-family buildings.

The Ministry, despite previous hesitations, is now seriously considering a ban on smoking on balconies. The increasing awareness of the harmful effects of cigarette smoke has played a significant role in this shift. The authors of the petition argue that while balconies are private property, the smoke produced by the owners can spread, exposing others to harmful substances. They also point out that a similar ban introduced in Lithuania in 2021 has had notable health benefits, further supporting their case.
