As of 17 June, new traffic regulations come into effect. Every driver of taxis and transport services from apps such as Uber or Bolt will be required to have a Polish driving licence. Experts speculate that these changes will lead to increased prices. How can one obtain a Polish driving licence?

In nearly every Polish city, taxis and ride-hailing services such as Uber, Bolt, and FreeNow are readily available. Thanks to numerous discounts and widespread availability, customers can access these services at competitive prices with just a phone call or a simple app installation. However, this affordability is expected to change soon.

A drastic increase in taxi fares?

Starting on 17 June, new regulations for taxi drivers and other ride-hailing services will be implemented. Drivers will now be required to hold a Polish driving licence to be eligible for work. Previously, anyone with a valid driving licence from any country who had passed the necessary tests could drive. This often included people from abroad.

Now, these individuals will only be able to transport passengers if they pass the Polish driving licence exams. Experts predict that this change will significantly increase fares.

How do you pass a driving licence test in Poland?

To obtain a Polish driving licence, you must have resided in Poland for at least 185 days. Additionally, the issuance of the document can take up to two months. Applicants must also pass two examinations: a theoretical test and a practical test.

The process begins with a written test of 32 questions from various categories. To pass, candidates must score at least 68 points out of a possible 74 within the allotted 25 minutes. Only after passing the theory test can one proceed to the practical examination. This involves driving with an examiner who assesses the candidate's knowledge and skills on the road. Precision is crucial during this phase, as even a single mistake can result in exam failure.
