The mayor of the Italian town of Valdobbiadene, Luciano Fregonese, decided to lose weight and get back in shape after gaining around 40 kg. The locals showed their support by joining him in his exercise routines.

A healthy lifestyle and maintaining a healthy weight are important to many people. To achieve this, they exercise regularly, prepare their meals, avoid alcohol, and do not smoke, all to keep their bodies in top shape. However, it is normal for people to gain weight and then attempt to lose it. This is precisely what the mayor of an Italian town is trying to do.

Luciano Fregonese, a 47-year-old Italian politician, is the mayor of Valdobbiadene in the province of Treviso. In numerous interviews with the media, he has admitted that he enjoys eating a lot and recognises that this can be problematic. This has proven true, as he has gained around 40 kg. He is now taking steps to lose weight. Fortunately, he can count on the support of the townspeople, who are running alongside the mayor, to keep him company and boost his spirits.

Townspeople run with the mayor

Luciano Fregonese won the mayoral election in June 2024 for the third time. Speaking to the media, he admitted that his doctors and family had advised him to lose weight. As a result, he decided to start running. When news of his decision spread among residents, many chose to join him. The campaign is ongoing, with people meeting every Thursday evening to run together through hills lined with UNESCO heritage vineyards. The politician describes the joint workouts on social media.

"A great workout this evening, too, despite the less-than-ideal weather: 140 people and five four-legged friends. Starting from Piazza Marconi, passing the Guicciardini Park and the Meneghetti retirement home park, we continued along Via Garibaldi, Via San Gregorio to reach Ponteggio, then along Strada di Funer, Via del Canisel, Via Garibaldi and Via Cal di Zoc, again along Strada di Ron and Via Guicciardini, Via San Martino and back to Piazza Marconi. 5.85 km covered in one and a half hours," reads the politician's Facebook page.

The motivation of the mayor and the people of Valdobbiadene is admirable, and the support of the townspeople in implementing the politician's training plan is heartwarming.
