Doctor, about the consumption of energizers among young people: "If we put aviation fuel in a car, it will explode"
Doctor Doru Negru, specialist in diabetes, nutrition and metabolic diseases, has drawn attention to the effects that energy drinks can have on the bodies of children and young people, especially if consumed in excess.
"Let's think for a moment! Do you remember there used to be a silly advertisement: "Parents, give sweets to your children!" Let's ruin their teeth, let's make them gain weight, let's make them all jittery, and so on.

What are these energy drinks? Caffeine and glucose. Well, the child is already restless; does he require additional stimulation? You might say: "He needs it because he's going to school to study a lot". Very well, no one is stopping him from studying. Caffeine only squeezes the last reserves of energy from the cells. In the conditions where, to study very well, all you need to do is take occasional breaks and alternate the mental stress of studying with the physical stress of exercising. You stop studying, do a few squats, a few stretches or you can run around the block three times and you've recharged your batteries to get back to studying, you don't need these drinks. They are harmful and bad", explained Dr. Doru Negru for news.ro.
Energy drinks, along with tobacco, drugs and alcohol, are trendy among young people. The doctor warns that there is no need for these beverages, as they can increase blood pressure, blood sugar and restlessness.
"If you don't have an energy drink, you're no good. The same story goes for drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. We don't need them; young people don't need them. We don't need such things.
These are calorie bombs with a lot of energy in a very small volume, released rapidly. They agitate you, raise your blood sugar through the roof, and anything you don't burn gets deposited, but before it has a chance to accumulate, you experience extreme agitation. It's just not worth it; we don't need these. They increase blood pressure, heart rate, it's not worth it. You see, it's like the story that we all have cars, and if you put aviation fuel in a diesel car, it will explode. We don't need this.
We are designed to consume low-quality foods with a relatively low quality of nutrients in a relatively large volume, which our bodies slowly absorb in a relatively small amount over a long period of time. When you suddenly introduce a large quantity of carbohydrates, blood sugar skyrockets, blood pressure skyrockets, and so on", the doctor emphasized.
The risk of developing diabetes is higher for those who consume energy drinks. The doctor notes that the same phenomenon can occur with weight gain. Such drinks should only be used in exceptional cases of fatigue and for a very short period of time.
"A child is already agitated without these drinks. A child runs around without them; they don't need them. Of course, children want sweets, because sweets mean a lot of energy in a small volume, released rapidly, but they don't need it, because they're already running around.
It's the same foolishness. Why don't we give children cigarettes, alcohol, drugs? Because it's not necessary. The probability of developing diabetes over time is higher than for those who don't consume energy drinks. The probability of gaining weight is higher because you won't always be able to consume all the energy contained in these energy drinks, that's why they're called like that. When you're very tired and feeling low, you can have one that provides you with the energy you need to recover and continue making an effort for a short period of time. But it's for a short period of time, right? It's not for pleasure, not for love, not for other wonders; it's not necessary!
We are designed to consume foods with a small amount of carbohydrates or carbohydrates that are released very slowly, whereas these drinks contain a large quantity of glucose that suddenly enters the body. Yes, they provide you with a large amount of energy for a period of time, so you can run, but for a short time. That's when you have no choice, from time to time, which is not the case with children", Dr. Doru Negru explained.
The interim President of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfred Simonis, recently announced that he has submitted two draft laws to Parliament, which propose banning the sale of energy drinks and e-cigarettes to minors. Alfred Simonis explained on a social network that energy drinks are a real danger to children's health, because they contain substances, such as caffeine, taurine, carnitine, guarana, glucuronolactone, and other compounds that stimulate the central nervous system.
